In an innovative collaboration, OneValley has partnered with Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab), Argonne National Laboratory, Idaho National Laboratory, and Oak Ridge National Laboratory,  to develop the Cradle to Commerce (C2C) climate tech accelerator. This unique initiative, supported by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Technology Transitions, Decisive Point, and MIT's The Engine, is set to revolutionize technology transfer and climate tech innovation. Berkeley Lab heads Cradle to Commerce to drive validated climate technologies from the cradle of our national labs to commercialization and climate impact.

Summary

The Cradle to Commerce (C2C) accelerator aims to expedite the government-funded intellectual property (IP) and technology with significant potential to address climate change through the creation of startups. OneValley's PassportOS serves as the technological backbone of this initiative, enhancing collaboration between national labs and providing essential support to promising climate tech startups. Drawing on OneValley's vast experience in aiding over a million founders and collaborating with governments, universities, and Fortune 500 companies, they offer mentoring and consultation on grants available to tech transfer offices nationwide.

Challenges & Objectives

Accelerating Commercialization of Intellectual Properties (IPs)

National labs continuously develop cutting-edge technologies, but the challenge lies in deploying these innovations quickly and effectively to combat climate change. Traditional greenwashing solutions are insufficient; there is an urgent need to accelerate the commercialization of critical intellectual properties from national labs, including Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, Argonne, Idaho National Lab, and Oak Ridge. Over 100 crucial IPs were identified, with credible demand assessments considering total addressable markets and technology levels.

The Solution

Cradle to Commerce (C2C) was Created!

Supported by PassportOS, a customized technology platform, C2C accelerates climate technology and promotes equitable entrepreneurship. Funded by the Department of Energy Office of Technology Transitions, this unprecedented public-private incubator provides innovators with unparalleled scientific and entrepreneurial resources. The program offers access to curated intellectual property from national labs and state-of-the-art prototyping and test beds.

Impact

C2C has had a significant impact on tech transfer and the commercialization of climate technology innovations:

  • 113 Scientifically-Vetted Intellectual Properties: Carefully assessed by domain experts to identify the most promising technologies for market deployment.

  • 16 Companies Incubated: Following the assessment, 16 companies were incubated within a three-year period, demonstrating the accelerator's effectiveness in turning scientific innovations into viable businesses.
